ALAN S. TILLES is counsel to numerous entities in the private radio, internet and entertainment industries. His breadth of work includes representing trade associations such as the Personal Communications Industry Association (PCIA), the Industrial Telecommunications Association (ITA) and Forest Industries Telecommunications (FIT). On PCIA's behalf, Mr. Tilles has participated in every FCC proceeding involving the private radio industry since 1984. In addition, he represents both large and small Specialized Mobile Radio (SMR) operators, private system users (including major airlines, public safety entities and utilities) and radio manufacturers.

Mr. Tilles has been involved in the radio industry since the age of 16, when he began working in the broadcasting industry as a disc jockey and he majored in Radio, Television & Film at the University of Maryland.  After graduating from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law in 1982, Mr. Tilles began representing radio broadcasters with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hayes & White. He joined Meyer, Faller, Weisman & Rosenberg, P.C. in 1984 and began utilizing his background in radio to help advance the interests of land mobile radio clients by bringing technical understanding to legal issues.

When Meyer Faller merged with Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, P.A. in 1998, Mr. Tilles continued his representation of private radio entities, and expanded his practice to include representing Internet Service Providers and entities utilizing so-called Wi-Fi technology. Utilizing his background as a former musician and talent agent, Mr. Tilles' practice has expanded to include entertainers, including both nationally-renowned and local musicians, such as Tower of Power and Ambrosia.

During his tenure at Meyer Faller and Shulman Rogers, Mr. Tilles has represented entities in regulatory proceedings, licensing and telephone interconnection disputes, and business transactions. In that capacity, Mr. Tilles has represented the seller in transactions with Nextel Communications valued at over $300 million, and negotiated on behalf of incumbent licensees over one hundred 800 MHz relocation agreements with Nextel.

As counsel to PCIA and ARINC, Mr. Tilles served a crucial role in the development of the "Consensus Plan" to eliminate interference to public safety radio systems from cellular systems.  On behalf of the City of Denver, Mr. Tilles successfully negotiated an agreement with Nextel Communications to resolve Denver's interference issues.

Mr. Tilles is a frequent speaker at trade shows for both the land mobile and internet industries, and has served as a column writer and regulatory consultant for a variety of trade publications including Mobile Radio Technology Magazine.
